Colombian rebels demand $4 mn for Spanish hostage

Zamora, Spain, Apr 19 (EFE).- Colombian rebels are demanding a ransom of 3 million euros (about $4 million) for a 68-year-old Spanish businessman abducted 13 months ago in the Andean nation.
Enrique Vindel Martinez, who owns and manages a company in Bogota, was kidnapped on March 4, 2006, Colombian police Col. Humberto Guatibonza Carreño, who is in the central Spanish city of Zamora for an international conference on crime, told Efe Thursday.
Guatibonza said the large ransom was demanded by the kidnappers the last time they contacted the victim's family.
He said Vindel's captors have not provided any proof that the chemical engineer is alive since last July.
Vindel was snatched near his country home in the Colombian province of Tolima, where he often spent his weekends.
